A brief overview of our divisions, if you are not familiar with the rodeo events click here. With each division you find a set of instructions and forms that need to be completed prior to first rodeo. All forms for High School and Junior must be uploaded to the NHSRA account portal.

HIGH SCHOOL

Requirements
​Ages 14 - 20, 9th - 12th grade

Boy Events - Bareback riding, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Dally Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, Working Cow horse

Girl Events - Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, Dally Team Roping, Working Cow Horse, Queen Contest.

Requirements
5th - 8th grade

Boy Events - Junior Bull Riding or Steer Riding, Calf Roping or Breakaway, Goat Tying, Team Roping, Ribbon Roping, Chute Dogging.

Girl Events - Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, Team Roping, Ribbon Roping.

Age 7, through 5th grade

sCHOLARSHIP INFO & APPLICATION

HS Student Officers & JH ambassadors

​Please find the application forms for the High School Student Officers and the JH ambassadors under the link below. The deadline for submitting your application is Monday May 5th, 2025. If you have any questions regarding these positions please reach out to Sarah Large.

Student Officers 
 A. There are 4 HS Student Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Historian) and 2 JH Ambassadors. 
B. Officers are elected at state finals for the following rodeo year. 
C. High School Officers must be a member of the VHSRA at the time of the elections and be rising 10th, 11th, or 12th graders. JH Ambassadors must be 6th, 7th, or 8th graders.

The High School Officer positions are voting board positions and will be voted on by the high school membership.

Queen Competition

Interested in being the next VHSRA Queen? Calling all VHSRA girls in 9th–11th grade.

The Queen Contest will take place in the spring at the VHSRA State Finals.

If you are interested in running for Queen next year, please contact the Queen Coordinator. There are specific requirements for participation, and early communication is encouraged. 

Queen Competition Requirements

• The Queen Competition is conducted each spring during the VHSRA State Finals.
• The crowned Queen must compete at Nationals in the Queen competition.
• Contestants must be current VHSRA members and in 9th–11th grade.
• Additional information sessions may be scheduled early spring for those interested.
• Specific application materials, including a headshot, are required and must be submitted prior to the competition.

No Problem, No pressure!  Try us out with a ONE-TIME-PERMIT for $25. The cost of the permit will be applied to the membership fee if you decide to join at the rodeo you are permitting. ​
